Spain’s tourism growth expected to slow down in 2026

As Spain enters 2026, industry experts are forecasting a more moderate expansion in the tourism sector following years of robust recovery.

According to recent analyses, international tourist arrivals are projected to increase by just 4pc, while hotel bookings may rise by 7pc. This shift towards a “more sustained” growth comes amid concerns over sustainability, with key figures like Gabriel Escarrer of Meliá Hotels International warning that unchecked expansion could strain resources.

Destinations such as Málaga, Alicante, and the Canary Islands are expected to see continued interest, bolstered by a 12pc rise in flights from the UK. However, the emphasis is moving from sheer volume to higher-quality experiences, including AI-assisted trip planning and eco-friendly practices.
