- The “Big Idiot Seat Sale” attracted over three million hits since launch.
- O’Leary maintained talks with Starlink and Amazon on wifi options.
Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary says he has offered Elon Musk a free plane ticket thanking him for a significant boost to bookings following their online dispute.
Mr O’Leary says the spat generated fantastic publicity for Ryanair with bookings up between 2pc and 3pc in recent days and Ryanair staff planned to hand-deliver the ticket to Musk’s X office. O’Leary described the exchange as good entertainment that boosted January February and March sales. The airline welcomed continued publicity as long as it avoided safety issues.
He restated that Ryanair could not afford Starlink costs estimated at €150m to €250m annually as external aerials would increase fuel consumption by 1pc to 2pc adding €100m to €200m to the fuel bill. O’Leary noted less than 10pc of passengers would pay for wifi based on Ryanair data.
