Almeria had a strong presence at FITUR 2026 in Madrid, representing all 103 municipalities to showcase new developments in 2026.

The province ‘s tourism sector is set to receive a significant boost with the opening of high-end accommodations, particularly along its coastal areas. One standout development is the Macenas Mediterranean Resort on the Almeria coast, which promises a luxurious beach retreat blending modern elegance with the region’s natural surroundings.  This resort will feature upscale amenities and is expected to appeal to visitors seeking a serene escape.

In Moj√°car, a popular holiday town in the province, the first five-star international hotel is scheduled to open by 2026 as part of a partnership between Hyatt Hotels Corporation and the Cosentino family office.  Integrated into the Destination by Hyatt brand, this property will mark a milestone for the area, introducing premium facilities such as suites, restaurants, and wellness options to the exclusive Macenas Mediterranean Resort complex.  Construction is slated to begin shortly, aiming to cater to discerning travellers with a focus on luxury and the local landscape.

These openings align with broader efforts in Andalucía to expand luxury and lifestyle offerings, though specific to Almería, they emphasise coastal sophistication and accessibility.

New Visitor Attractions, Experiences, and Enhancements in Almeria for 2026

Beyond accommodations, 2026 will bring fresh enhancements to Almer√≠a’s visitor experiences, emphasising sustainable tourism, improved connectivity, and unique events. A notable addition is a new tourist boat tour launching in the region, designed to showcase the stunning vistas of the Costa de Almeria coastline.  This initiative aims to promote year-round exploration, allowing guests to enjoy scenic cruises that highlight the area’s rugged beauty and marine environment, fostering a deeper appreciation for the province’s natural assets.

In terms of infrastructure enhancements, the AVE high-speed rail line to Almeria is projected to become fully operational by October 2026, transforming connectivity and making the region more accessible for international visitors.  This development will integrate the railway into the city, creating an intermodal hub at Almeria station and improving urban permeability. As noted by Jos√© Antonio Santano, Spain’s Secretary of State for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, “The Almeria rail integration project will drive economic and social development and create new opportunities in tourism, commerce, and workforce mobility.”  While not a direct quote from the principal tourism minister, it underscores the project’s role in elevating the visitor experience through seamless travel.

Sports and cultural enthusiasts will benefit from Almeria taking centre stage in the 2026 Vuelta a Espa√±a, with a queen stage of the prestigious cycling race passing through several municipalities in the province.  This event will offer spectators thrilling routes amid Almer√≠a’s diverse terrain, from deserts to coastlines, and is expected to draw crowds while highlighting the area’s suitability for active tourism.

Additionally, the town of Tabernas has recently joined Spain’s list of ‘Magical Towns’, a designation that will enhance its appeal through targeted promotion of its unique desert landscapes and film history, including sites like the Tabernas Desert used in classic Western movies.  This recognition supports ongoing efforts to boost local tourism, with new interpretive trails and events planned to capitalise on its cinematic heritage.
