The airline association Aerolíneas ALA forecasted another record year for Spanish airport traffic in 2026, with passenger numbers expected to rise by close to 4pc, exceeding 330m.

This follows strong performance in 2025, where Aena airports handled over 321m passengers. Airlines advocate for Aena to invest up to €10bn while lowering tariffs to boost traffic and revenues further.

The Madrid Ministry of Industry and Tourism confirmed that Spain welcomed 111.7m international passengers in 2025, marking a rise of 5.9pc compared with the previous year.

December alone saw 7.7m air arrivals, up 6.8pc on December 2024. These figures underscore sustained recovery and growth in inbound tourism, with air transport playing a central role in driving visitor numbers.
