Derelict hotel on Inis Meáin to be transformed into cultural centre

A proposal to transform the derelict hotel on Inis Meáin in the Aran Islands into a cultural centre has been discussed.

The building, long unused, could be repurposed to host exhibitions, workshops, and community activities focused on Gaelic language and island heritage. Local stakeholders are examining feasibility and funding options.

The initiative seeks to preserve the island’s cultural identity while boosting year-round visitor interest. Inis Meáin, part of Galway’s Aran Islands, already draws tourists for its scenery and history. If approved, the project would enhance the area’s appeal as a heritage destination.
