Barberstown Castle completes renovations to its public areas

Barberstown Castle in Straffan County Kildare completed renovations to its public areas in early February 2026 focusing on a garden themed transformation. The main lobby became the light filled Garden Lounge with a vaulted hexagonal ceiling painted in off white with gold trim and a black and cream marble floor. The space incorporates contemporary kinetic art by Patrick Rubinstein including reinterpretations of works by Vermeer Klimt and Matisse displayed in collaboration with Gormley’s as part of a rotating exhibition programme.

The adjacent Garden Bar received sage green tones reflecting its rose garden outlook and now offers light lunches fresh bakes artisan coffee and cocktails with direct garden access in warmer months. The adjoining Garden Suite features mirrored ceiling design quirky wallpaper luxurious textures deep pile carpets chandeliers and large windows opening to the terrace. Owner Amanda Torrens described the works as part of ongoing improvements to maintain and future proof the historic property.

Amanda Torrens shared “This renovation is part of programme of improvements and additions that we will continue to do at this historic building. We are just custodians of this Castle and it our job to maintain improve and future proof this incredible space for generations and perhaps even hundreds of more years to come.”
