Lawsuit challenges America’s TSA cash seizure policy on domestic flights

A lawsuit seeks to halt TSA and DEA seizures of cash from domestic flight passengers exceeding $10,000 without clear policy justification.

Attorney Dan Alban argues treating cash as contraband is illegal for internal travel. The case cites an incident where over $80,000 was held for seven months after a bag search. TSA admits no defined rules for large cash amounts on domestic flights. The Institute for Justice filed the suit several years ago and it remains ongoing.

Dan Alban shared it’s perfectly legal to fly with any amount and travellers should not be subjected to any additional scrutiny because they are travelling with ‘large’ amounts of cash.
