Madrid has been voted the Best European Destination for 2026 by European Best Destinations, securing first place with 127,438 international votes in a poll exceeding 1.3m participants worldwide.
The capital outperformed competitors including Nicosia, Štajerska, Verona, and Paris, thanks to its cultural heritage, dynamic neighbourhoods, green spaces, innovative architecture, evolving gastronomy, and lifestyle appeal.
The recognition strengthens Madrid’s position as a leading urban destination for the year ahead. Organisers praised the city’s ability to connect with contemporary traveller aspirations.
