Thailand’s Revenue Department is holding a public consultation on a proposed 1,000-baht departure tax. The consultation runs until 29 October 2026. The proposed tax is about $30 per international passenger.

The tax would apply to all nationalities leaving by air. Land and sea departures are initially exempt. Children under two, official government guests, and transit passengers would be exempt. Airlines or ticket agents would collect the fee with the ticket fare. The legal maximum cap is 5,000 baht. The proposal is separate from the existing 1,120-baht international airport passenger service charge.

A separate planned 450-baht foreign tourist arrival fee is under review. The plan remains in draft legislation and consultation phase. It has not been officially approved or enacted. If passed, the tax would take effect 180 days after publication in the Royal Gazette. Tickets purchased before enforcement would not be subject to the fee.
