Ballyconnigar Beach in Blackwater will not have permanent access bridge for 2026

Wexford County Council has reports there has been no progress on a permanent access bridge to Ballyconnigar Beach in Blackwater. A temporary wooden bridge was typically installed in spring and removal in autumn or winter.

Senior engineer Enda Brennan stated focus shifted to other areas with no immediate plans for permanent works.

Councillor Oliver Walsh expressed disappointment as the beach supported village tourism with facilities like car park and toilets.

Past timelines indicated detailed design stage targeted for first quarter 2026 but updates showed delay.

Enda Brennan shared “We’ve been concentrating on other areas. The long-term solution is to put a permanent bridge there but, at the moment, we have the temporary bridge for nine months of the year. There’s no progress on it right now.”

Oliver Walsh shared ” Ballyconnigar is the main beach we have in Blackwater, we depend on it to bring tourism to the village and the bridge won’t be back there until at least April.”
