Jamaica adopts the Nairobi Declaration on Global Tourism Resilience

Jamaica Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett revealed his country has adopted the Nairobi Declaration on Global Tourism Resilience at the 4th Global Tourism Resilience Day Conference in Kenya.

The Declaration committed nations to institutionalise resilience in tourism policy mobilise sustainable financing and harness data and AI for crisis anticipation.

The event took place from 16 to 18 February 2026 at Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi under the theme Tourism Resilience in Action.

Inclusivity formed a core element mandating participation of women youth indigenous communities and vulnerable groups.

The Declaration called for strengthened regional cooperation harmonised crisis protocols and unified multilateral advocacy.

Professor Lloyd Waller Executive Director of Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre noted the focus on proactive inclusive planning.

Edmund Bartlett shared “The Nairobi Declaration is not merely a statement of intent it is a strategic blueprint for the future of global tourism. In an era defined by climate disruption geopolitical uncertainty and rapidly evolving technologies resilience is no longer optional it is the foundation upon which sustainable tourism growth must be built.”

Lloyd Waller shared “Critically the Declaration places inclusivity at the heart of resilience mandating the full participation of women youth indigenous communities and other vulnerable groups in shaping policy. It further calls for strengthened regional and global cooperation harmonised crisis-response protocols and a unified multilateral voice on tourism resilience.”
