Fergal O’Connell appointed Chief Executive of Fitzwilliam Hospitality Group

The Fitzwilliam Hospitality Group has appointed Fergal O’Connell as its new chief executive. 

He will lead strategic direction and growth across the group’s portfolio of distinguished properties in Ireland. Mr O’Connell has a long history with the group, having served as the General Manager of the Fitzwilliam Hotel Dublin since 2008. In his new role as CEO, he is responsible for the strategic direction and growth of the group’s portfolio, which includes properties in both Dublin and Belfast.

Experience: O’Connell brings over 18 years of service to the group. He recently oversaw a €13.5 million refurbishment of the Dublin hotel. His leadership aims to enhance guest experiences and drive sustainable commercial growth.

Michael Holland, owner of the Ampleforth and Fitzwilliam Hotel Group, cited O’Connell’s “extensive luxury hotel expertise” as the primary reason for his selection to guide the group’s long-term initiatives.

Matin Mangan appointed to Fitzwilliam Belfast

Martin Mangan was appointed as the new general manager of the Fitzwilliam Hotel Belfast in January 2026.

Martin Mangan previously spent five years as General Manager at Carton House, A Fairmont Managed Hotel. He has over 30 years of experience in the industry across Ireland, England, and the US, having worked with brands like Hilton and Conrad. 

At Carton he led the 5-star re-opening of Carton House, secured a Michelin Star for The Morrison Room, and was involved in hosting the KPMG Women’s Irish Open. He is a former President of the Irish Hospitality Institute (IHI) and former Chairman of the Dublin branch of the Irish Hotels Federation (IHF). He is an alumnus of Cornell, executive and professional education class of 2011.
