  • Wicklow County Council refused permission to add 35 bedrooms to The Palm Hotel on Bray seafront.
  • The application proposed a change of use of the first-floor nightclub to hotel accommodation.
  • Plans included a side extension and a two-storey extension above the rear structure.
  • The building is a protected Victorian structure on Strand Road.

Wicklow County Council has refused permission for an extension that would have added 35 new bedrooms to The Palm Hotel and Gastropub on Bray seafront. Beachline Limited lodged the application which sought a change of use of the existing first-floor nightclub to hotel accommodation together with a side extension and a two-storey extension above the rear structure. The proposal involved a protected Victorian building on Strand Road.

The plans included 35 ensuite bedrooms along with ancillary accommodation and associated site works. Wicklow County Council issued the refusal decision in early April 2026. The application referenced the protected structure status of the building.

Beachline Limited has not confirmed whether it will appeal the decision and the Palm Hotel and Gastropub continues to operate on Bray seafront. The refusal represents a setback to the proposed expansion of the boutique hotel.

Wicklow County Council shared “The application for the change of use of the existing first floor nightclub area to hotel accommodation together with the proposed extensions has been refused.”
