Royal Caribbean and Mexico evaluate new site for Perfect Day project

Royal Caribbean Group and the Mexican government have evaluated a new location for the Perfect Day Mexico project. The original plan at Costa Maya in Mahahual faced rejection over environmental concerns related to the Mesoamerican Reef. Authorities now discuss alternative sites with the company.

The project, first announced in 2024, planned a private destination the size of Disney’s Magic Kingdom with a large waterpark and retail areas. Costa Maya continues to receive cruise ships on schedule from Florida, Texas and Gulf Coast homeports. The port changed hands in 2025 and joined Royal Caribbean’s portfolio.

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo shared “Discussions are underway with the company to see if there is a location where the project could be developed without these environmental impacts.”
