The Buckley family is celebrating 75 years of hospitality at The Castle Hotel Macroom on 5 September. The family-owned hotel has been welcoming visitors to Macroom since 1951, now in its third generation. The story began in April 1951 when Dan Buckley arrived in Macroom with just two suitcases and a greyhound, later marrying Maureen Sheehan in December 1951.
At that time, the hotel was known as Ronan’s and consisted of just ten bedrooms, serving as the official bus stop for the town. The hotel’s name was later changed to The Castle Hotel to reflect its location beside the historic Castle Gates. What began as a ten-bedroom boarding house steadily expanded to 56 bedrooms, now a four-star hotel with a Leisure Centre of almost 1,000 members, conference and banqueting facilities for up to 200 guests, Dan Buckley’s Bar, B’s Restaurant and the Next Door Café.
Rory Buckley, Manager, stated the celebration is about the generations of guests, staff, suppliers, friends and the local community who have helped shape the hotel. The family extends an invitation to all former staff members to join the celebration on 5 September.
