Spain targets 43m international tourists this summer

Spain expects around 43m international visitors between June and September, a sixpc increase on the prior year, according to Ministry of Industry and Tourism forecasts. Tourist spending is projected to rise by 10pc to €64,000m.

The outlook positions the summer as potentially the busiest on record and brings the full-year total closer to 100m arrivals. Strong spring figures, including a record May, underpin the confidence.

Hotel groups anticipate high occupancy on the coast while the government emphasises higher-value tourism and efforts to ease pressure on saturated destinations through sustainability measures and promotion of inland areas.
