Turkish Airlines is changing the way it flies to Sydney, which will soon include a stopover in Singapore.
From late October until March 2027, Turkish Airlines is rerouting its Istanbul-Sydney service through Singapore, replacing its previous Kuala Lumpur stopover. The change brings a new lie-flat business class option onto the Sydney-Singapore sector, alongside a routing that – for the first time – can be booked on its own. Turkish Airlines says travellers will be able to book and fly just the Sydney-Singapore or Singapore-Sydney leg, opening the new routing up to a wider range of passengers than the original Kuala Lumpur stopover allowed. Turkish Airlines’ Istanbul-Sydney service switches its stopover from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore from 26 October 2026, running five days a week on an Airbus A350-900 fitted with around 30 lie-flat business class pods.
The change comes with a flight number switch, from TK174/TK175 to TK22/TK23. TK23 departs Sydney at 21:35, arriving in Singapore at 02:50, before continuing on to Istanbul. TK22 leaves Singapore at 08:30 and lands in Sydney at 19:25, having originated in Istanbul. Turkish Airlines is rebalancing its Southeast Asian network. Weekly flights to Singapore are rising from 17 to 22, while Kuala Lumpur frequencies are being trimmed from 19 to 14. Consolidating both Australian routes – Sydney and Melbourne – through a single Southeast Asian hub also sets up Turkish Airlines’ next move. Turkish Airlines is targeting a nonstop Istanbul-Sydney service once its Airbus A350-1000s arrive, with 2027 mooted as the target.
