Owners of Sligo Park Hotel and Mespil Hotel pay €5.2m in dividends to family owners

Sligo Park Hotel and Mespil Hotel in Dublin 4 have paid a combined €5.2m in dividends to the Kidney family, the owners of the Lee Hotel Group, according to new company filings. The payout comprised €3m from the Sligo Park Hotel and €2.2m from the Mespil Hotel for the 12-month period ending September 2025. The group’s turnover increased by 5.3 pc to €25.3m during this period, with pre-tax profits rising 12.7 pc to €5.85m.

The Mespil Hotel employed an average of 250 people last year, paying €7.9m in wages and salaries, while the Sligo Park Hotel employed 126 staff with a total wage bill of €3.4m. The group’s cash reserves reached €2.5m by the end of the reporting period, with 88 pc of this amount originating from the Mespil property. The director’s report described trading for the year as satisfactory, while noting exposure to rising operational costs, including payroll, energy and food costs, alongside challenges in recruiting and retaining skilled staff.

The group has eight directors across its two hotels, with at least four members coming from the Kidney family, who have been involved in the Irish hotel business for almost 100 years. The Sligo Park Hotel increased director remuneration by 11.2 pc to €386,050, while the Mespil Hotel saw a 27.2 pc cut in director payments to €592,500. The 136-room Sligo Park Hotel and 255-room Mespil Hotel continue to trade successfully in their respective markets, with the Dublin property benefiting from corporate business during weekdays and leisure tourists at weekends.
