Dromoland Castle Resort in County Clare has been undertaking a €22m upgrade to its golf course and resort facilities ahead of the 2027 Ryder Cup. The five-star hotel has submitted its latest golf course upgrade plans to Clare County Council, with a final planning decision expected by September 24, 2026. The massive tournament will be held 40 minutes away at Adare Manor, and Dromoland is preparing its 388-acre estate to host the surge of international golf fans and high-profile guests.
The extensive revamp is being rolled out in phases to transform the historic estate into a premier hub for the tournament. Golf facilities receive extensive structural enhancements and upgrades directly to the championship golf course and the golf club facilities. Approval has already been granted for 25 new Ryder Cup-inspired luxury guest rooms built near the old stables. The addition includes a new restaurant, an extended bar, and a hidden cellar speakeasy bar, plus lakeside sauna cabins and updated grounds for high-end relaxation.
To complete the primary phase of this multi-million euro project, the resort plans to close entirely for six months starting in November 2026. The estate will officially reopen in May 2027, giving it time to prepare before the Ryder Cup matches begin in September 2027. Local hospitality operators expect increased tourism demand linked to the tournament, and the project forms part of broader efforts to position the region as a premier golf and leisure destination.
