Air India has shifted all of its scheduled commercial flights from the old Visakhapatnam Airport to the newly opened Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram on 17 August 2026. The transition is part of a larger move where all major commercial airline operations in the region have relocated to the state-of-the-art facility, with the new airport continuing to use the existing Visakhapatnam airport code VTZ to avoid confusion for travellers. Air India is maintaining 14 weekly flights between Bhogapuram and Delhi, connecting passengers to further domestic and international routes, with additional services operating to Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

The new greenfield airport was built under a public-private partnership at a cost of over ₹5,640 crore and is designed to handle up to 6m passengers annually. The terminal covers 77,342 square metres and offers 22 traditional check-in counters, 18 self-baggage drop units, and 7 modern aerobridges, all designed to improve passenger comfort. The old Visakhapatnam facility has stopped scheduled commercial flights and will now be used for defence operations, police operations, and VIP movements.

The relocation represents a milestone for the region’s aviation infrastructure, providing enhanced passenger facilities and operational capacity. Air India continues to operate its domestic network from the new facility, serving key destinations including Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. Passengers with upcoming trips booked to or from Visakhapatnam can check their current schedule or manage their booking through the official Air India website.
