Bamboo Airways is planning a comeback and aims to restart its scheduled flight operations following a major financial crisis that forced the airline to temporarily halt normal ticket sales and cut its fleet. The Vietnamese airline drastically downsized from a peak of 44 aircraft to just three planes, with only one Airbus A321 remaining active. On 1 August 2026, Bamboo Airways stopped selling tickets for its regular domestic routes, with its final scheduled flights wrapping up around 22 August 2026.
During the operational pause, the airline only operated limited private charter flights, including routes between Da Nang and Macau. The airline faced heavy financial stress, mounting debts, and aircraft repossessions, following the 2022 arrest of its founder who was tied to the airline’s former parent company, FLC Group. Bamboo Airways is working on a revival strategy and preparing to restart regular flight operations, with the goal of slowly bringing back its flight routes and adding more travel options for passengers in Vietnam.
Many passengers faced flight cancellations during the shutdown, and Bamboo Airways has been working to issue cash refunds, though processing times have taken up to 90 business days due to the high volume of requests. The airline has not yet shared specific details about which routes will open first or when ticket sales will go live. Bamboo Airways continues to work on its restructuring efforts as it seeks to return to regular operations.
Le Thi Ngoc Hanh, a spokesperson for Bamboo Airways, shared: “We are actively working on our restructuring and revival strategy, and we remain committed to resuming regular flight operations as we rebuild our network and restore passenger confidence in our services.”
