Delta Air Lines has signed a 20-year anchor lease to occupy at least six of the 16 gates at Tampa International Airport’s upcoming Airside D terminal, solidifying the carrier’s long-term presence in the region through approximately 2049. The construction of the new terminal requires a $1.528bn investment, with structural steel installation underway and construction slated for completion by late 2028. Spanning roughly 600,000 square feet, Airside D will become the largest terminal on the airport’s campus.
The lease includes an 18,000-square-foot premium mezzanine-level lounge, which will be Delta’s first purpose-built Sky Club at the airport. The other 10 gates remain flexible for the airport authority to assign to domestic and international carriers as demand dictates. The expansion will increase the airport’s capacity to handle 35m passengers annually by 2037.
The addition of a dedicated Federal Inspection Services (FIS) facility within Airside D equips the airport to process widebody international arrivals seamlessly. This positioning allows Delta to potentially scale up its international footprint from Tampa without competing for processing space in pre-existing facilities. Delta currently operates roughly 45 daily departures out of Tampa, including its primary transatlantic route to Amsterdam.
Delta Air Lines shared in a written statement, “The agreement solidifies Delta’s long-term presence in the region through approximately 2049.”
