Data from BiHoliday from the summer 2026 season supports this trend, showcasing the continued strength of open-air tourism as one of the most dynamic segments of the European travel industry. Families with children account for 43pc of guests, and couples account for 35pc, together representing more than 78pc of the customer base. Guests travelling with pets now represent more than 18pc of the total, confirming that the option to holiday with a pet is becoming an increasingly important factor in destination choice.

Almost 1 in 2 guests (46pc) express an interest in sport, underlining that outdoor activity, fitness, water sports, and dynamic experiences are now central to what today’s traveller expects. While contact with nature remains one of open-air tourism’s main attractions, space has become increasingly important, meaning not only green surroundings but also time for oneself and the chance to escape everyday pressures. Campsites and holiday villages continue to see sustained demand, driven by a shift in how travellers want to spend their leisure time.
