Over 14,000 travelling American fans brought the energy of a major U.S. sporting occasion to Ireland for the Aer Lingus College Football Classic between the TCU Horned Frogs and the North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday, 29 August 2026. Official tailgating and fan celebrations took place across Dublin, transforming the city into a giant pre-game festival before kickoff at Aviva Stadium. The event highlighted the strong links between Ireland and North Carolina, supported by Aer Lingus’ Dublin-Raleigh Durham service and American Airlines’ Dublin-Charlotte route.

Official matchday festivities began at 12:00 PM with Guinness presenting dedicated team venues across the city as official pre-game fan hubs for TCU and UNC supporters. Dublin City Council hosted Ceol Country in Merrion Square from 12:00 PM, providing live entertainment and a public gathering point for fans. The traditional band march saw the famous marching bands parade from the RDS to Aviva Stadium, offering fans the classic American gameday spectacle. Dublin’s Own Tailgate at Sandymount Hotel, hosted by the Dublin Rebels American Football Club, featured outdoor food, drinks, games and prizes.

The Best UNC Tailgate in the city centre featured Tar Heels basketball legend Tyler Hansbrough, with ticketed party features including an open bar, American and Irish buffet, live band and photo opportunities with local cheerleaders. J.R. Mahon’s Pre-Game Tailgate on Burgh Quay ran from 11:30 AM to 4:30 PM, offering an American college football tailgate experience with an official afterparty. The Lord Mayor of Dublin hosted official pep rallies on Friday, 28 August, allowing supporters to meet the marching bands, spirit squads and team representatives. The University of North Carolina secured victory in the match, with the event strengthening cultural and sporting ties between Ireland and the United States.
