The Ormond Hotel site on Ormond Quay Upper in Dublin has been sold for approximately €12m. The transaction involved Malaysian-based Monteco Holdings selling to an Irish investment company in an off-market deal brokered by CBRE.
The Victorian-era building has remained empty since closing its doors in 2006. The site famously featured in the Sirens chapter of James Joyce’s Ulysses. The plot comes with full planning permission for a 120-bedroom hotel stretching across seven floors and encompassing roughly 5,850 square metres of space.
The new development will feature food, beverage and meeting facilities. The surrounding neighbourhood is undergoing broader regeneration, including the nearby pedestrianisation of Capel Street and the planned redevelopment of the historic fruit-and-vegetable market. The sale marks a turning point for the long-vacant site on the banks of the River Liffey.
