Barceló Hotel Group has opened Palacio San Juan, a Royal Hideaway Hotel, marking the arrival of the first five-star hotel in the history of Murcia, Spain. The property has been housed in the restored 19th-century neoclassical palace of the Count of Floridablanca on Plaza de San Juan. The opening has represented a milestone for high-value tourism in the region.
The property has been developed in partnership with property owner Grupo Fuertes and has represented an investment of around €18m. The hotel has featured 70 upscale rooms and suites spread across five levels, featuring terracotta velvet elements and botanical design motifs. The project led by Murcian architect Jesús Zafra has restored the palace’s heritage value and original architectural features. The hotel has been situated in the heart of Murcia’s historic centre, just a five-minute walk from Murcia Cathedral and the banks of the Segura River.
The hotel has introduced Ocra Restaurant, scheduled to open in late October 2026, helmed by two-Michelin-starred chef Juanlu Fernández. The Royal Heaven Rooftop has launched on 16 September 2026, offering signature cocktails, tapas and a panoramic pool overlooking the city rooftops and the cathedral. Guests have had access to a modern gym, a central patio and bespoke concierge services. Rooms have been available to reserve on the official Barceló website with starting rates around €240 per night.
