Amazon has suspended its partnership with cargo carrier 21 Air following a fatal runway overshoot at Miami International Airport on 6 September 2026 that resulted in five deaths. The decision to pause operations with the North Carolina-based airline came after Amazon spent time supporting the initial investigation and reviewing the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Prime Air Flight 7598, a Boeing 767 cargo jet carrying Amazon packages arriving from Puerto Rico, came in fast and touched down far past the designated landing zone. The aircraft barrelled roughly 1,300 feet past the end of the pavement and smashed into a van carrying workers from a plane cleaning company, killing all five people inside and injuring five others.

Initial flight data and cockpit audio released by the National Transportation Safety Board indicated that the plane was travelling too fast on approach. One pilot warned the other about the excessive speed both before and after touchdown. Investigators are reviewing whether a tailwind, late touchdown, and limited braking space exacerbated the overrun. The 32-year-old Boeing 767 was originally built to carry passengers before being converted to a freighter in 2015.
