Portugal has unveiled its New Seven Wonders on 12 September 2026 during a grand final ceremony in Sintra broadcast on TVI. The seven iconic national landmarks were chosen by a nationwide public vote. The competition was organised nearly 20 years after the country’s original national wonders poll and highlighted structures ranging from antiquity to contemporary design.
The seven wonders include Leiria Castle in Central Portugal for medieval heritage, the Roman Ruins of São Cucufate in Alentejo for archaeological significance, and Lisbon Cathedral for religious importance. The Usseira Aqueduct in Central Portugal represents major works while the Tiago Cabaço Winery in Alentejo showcases contemporary architecture. The Olhão Municipal Markets in Algarve represent 20th-century architecture and the Episcopal Palace Garden in Central Portugal represents tourism.
