Etihad Airways is navigating a capacity crunch by expanding its fleet modifying routes and introducing upcoming cabin retrofits to meet surging demand. Despite major financial and operational setbacks stemming from airspace closures in March and April due to regional conflict the airline’s passenger capacity is running 15 pc to 17 pc higher year-on-year bolstered by a 92 pc seat utilisation rate in August 2026.
While regional peers scale back Etihad has pushed forward adding more than 20 aircraft to its fleet earlier this year. The airline expects to take delivery of 15 additional new aircraft by December 2026. Etihad also unveiled new cabin designs across first business and economy classes which will be integrated into upcoming Airbus A321LR and Airbus A330 aircraft with deliveries expected by mid-2027.
The airline increased its Abu Dhabi to Brussels service from seven to 11 weekly flights and extended seasonal routes. The Abu Dhabi to Palma de Mallorca route operated by the Airbus A321LR was extended through 18 October and Zanzibar services were extended until 31 March 2027.
