Swissport International has signed a binding agreement to acquire a majority stake in Giraldo Hermanos International SAS marking Swissport’s entry into Colombia. This investment further strengthens Swissport’s presence in Latin America where it currently operates at 85 airports across 15 countries while establishing a platform in one of its most important markets for passenger and air cargo services. GHI is a Colombian ground services company with operations in Bogotá and Medellín.
GHI is licensed to provide ground handling at all major airports in Colombia and offers a comprehensive range of services including passenger and air cargo handling, assistance for passengers with reduced mobility and equipment rental. The company serves a portfolio of customers including Copa Airlines, Air Europa, Turpial Airlines, Solar Cargo and FedEx. Colombia is South America’s second-largest domestic aviation market after Brazil with 57.5m passengers travelling through its airports in 2025.
The strength of the country’s national network is reflected in the Bogotá to Medellín corridor which IATA identified as the busiest airport pair in Latin America in 2025 with 3.5m passengers. Colombia also ranks as the second-largest international air freight market in the region. The closing of the transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions including regulatory approvals.
