Qantas has revealed that its nonstop Project Sunrise Sydney to London flights will cost about 20pc more than comparable one-stop services. Daily flights are due to launch in October 2027 on specially configured Airbus A350-1000ULRs, becoming the world’s longest scheduled passenger flight. Tickets are scheduled to go on sale in February 2027. The airline states the service will cut journey times by up to four hours.
Group CEO Vanessa Hudson confirmed that this pricing structure matches the proven premium model of its existing Perth to London route, capitalising on travellers’ willingness to pay more to eliminate a stopover. The historic 22-hour direct route is scheduled to launch in October 2027, with tickets going on sale in February 2027.
Because Project Sunrise flights will operate on specially configured Airbus A350-1000ULR aircraft carrying only 238 passengers with 40pc of the cabin dedicated to premium seating, estimated airfares are projected to reflect significant increases compared to standard one-stop routes. Sydney to New York nonstop flights will follow in mid-2028, with tickets scheduled to go on sale in August 2027.
