Ireland will NOT follow US & England in banning laptops in cabin in flights from Muslim majority countries

A spokesperson for Shane Ross’s Department of Transport said: aviation security in Ireland is governed primarily by EU rules and regulations and Ireland complies with the EU’s common security standards. Security measures at Irish airports have not changed nor are they expected to change in the near future.

Turkish flies from Istanbul to Dublin and Kuwait have a stopover flight through Shannon en route to JFK.

The US has banned the devices in cabin baggage on flights from specific airports, rather than countries, and only on specific Middle Eastern airlines, including Kuwait airways, which stops over at Shannon.

Britain banned devices larger than smartphones from cabins on aircraft from Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia.

Airlines will come under the ban include Atlas-Global Airlines, British Airways, EasyJet, Egyptair, Jet2, Middle East Airlines, Monarch, Pegasus Airways, Royal Jordanian, Saudia, Thomas Cook, Thomson, Tunis Air and Turkish Airlines.

Emirates tweeted a joke in response to the ban. Emirates has the largest screens in the sky, with 27″ in first class, 20″‘ in business and 12.1″ in economy, all will be widescreen HD.

The US have listed ten airports in eight countries for a similar laptop ban:

  • Abu Dhabi international in the United Arab Emirates.
  • Amman Queen Alia in Jordan
  • Cairo International in Egypt
  • Casblanca Mohammaed V in Morocco
  • Doha International in Qatar
  • Dubai international in the United Arab Emirates
  • Istanbul Ataturk International in Turkey
  • Jedda King Abudlaziz in Saudi Arabia
  • Kuwait International in Kuwait,
  • Riyadh King Khalid airport in Saudi Arabia
