Travel-related platforms drive e-commerce growth of 15.1pc in Spain

Total e-commerce turnover in Spain rose by 15.1pc year-on-year during the first quarter to reach €29.643bn. Travel-related platforms were the chief drivers of this surge. The data comes from the latest official electronic commerce reports released by the Spanish competition regulator, CNMCData.

Travel agencies and tour operators accounted for 8.7pc of the total turnover. Air transport followed closely with 6.4pc of total revenues. Combined, these two primary sectors made up exactly 15.1pc of all digital commerce spending in Spain for the quarter. The total volume of individual transactions across the country expanded by 16pc, surpassing 549m trades.

The e-commerce growth reflects increasing digital adoption in Spain. Travel platforms have become significant contributors to online commerce. The data covers the first quarter of the year.
