Several holiday destinations have introduced or increased visitor charges. Thailand plans an entry fee of about €8 per person. Barcelona has raised its tourist tax to between €10 and €15 per person per night depending on accommodation.
Similar increases apply in Venice, Amsterdam, the Balearic Islands, Edinburgh, and parts of Greece. Thailand’s proposed departure tax is under public consultation until 29 October 2026. The proposed rate is 1,000 baht, about $30, with a legal maximum cap of 5,000 baht. The tax would apply to all nationalities leaving by air. Land and sea departures are initially exempt.
The proposed Thai levy is separate from the existing 1,120-baht international airport passenger service charge. A separate planned 450-baht foreign tourist arrival fee is also under review. Barcelona’s tourist tax varies by accommodation type. Venice, Amsterdam, the Balearic Islands, Edinburgh, and parts of Greece have implemented similar increases.
