- EasyJet has cut another 700,000 winter seats
- Total winter reductions reach 1.4m seats
- Fuel costs following Iran conflict drove the decision
- Winter programme usually offers around 50m seats
- Ryanair has also trimmed quieter services
EasyJet has removed another 700,000 seats from its winter 2026 to 2027 schedule. The reduction follows an earlier cut of about 700,000 seats. The airline has cited high fuel costs as the reason for lower capacity.
The cuts bring total winter capacity reductions to 1.4m seats. EasyJet’s winter programme typically offers around 50m seats from October through March. Chief Executive Kenton Jarvis linked the step to avoiding higher fuel bills after prices rose following the Iran conflict. The reduction equals roughly two full days of flying.
Ryanair has also trimmed quieter services amid similar pressures. Industry analysts indicate the cuts target planned seasonal capacity rather than active schedules. Existing bookings do not automatically equate to 1.4m cancellations. Fewer total seats may restrict choice during the winter season.
