The Mandarin Oriental Barcelona has reduced water consumption by 35pc through the installation of flow reducers. The system was developed with ECO ONE and lowers flow from 17 to 11 litres per minute at treated points while maintaining guest comfort. The initiative aligns luxury hospitality with regional drought mitigation efforts in Catalonia.
The hotel introduced durable flow limiters that dropped water output at strategic outlets. The fixtures maintain standard water pressure using technology based on the Venturi effect. This saves an average of six litres of water per minute without compromising the five-star shower experience. The upgrade coincides with scrutiny over the tourism sector’s environmental footprint. A high-season guest at a five-star hotel has historically been estimated to use between 700 and 1,000 litres per day compared with 130 to 160 litres for an average resident. Hotels across Barcelona have collectively lowered tourist daily water consumption by about 40pc over recent years
