Businessman and councillor Tom Crosby has expressed interest in buying the long-closed Shannon Key West Hotel in Rooskey. The property has 39 bedrooms and has been shut for 15 years. Crosby stated he would purchase the property if needed to ensure it remains a hotel.

The property sits on the Roscommon/Leitrim border and is expected to be placed on the open market for auction shortly. The hotel has been closed for 15 years and was previously the subject of protracted legal disputes, a lis pendens and abandoned proposals to use the site as an asylum seeker accommodation centre. Local residents and councils raised concerns over the building, which has been fenced off for years.

The upcoming auction represents the first major opportunity in years to resolve the property’s future. Crosby is prepared to step in and buy the property if needed to protect the site’s original commercial purpose. The hotel was once a hub for local tourism along the River Shannon.
