A Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Dallas diverted to Shannon Airport on 28 October 2026 after the crew declared a medical emergency. The aircraft had already overflown Ireland and landed at 1.25pm. Ambulance and airport fire crews attended. The flight resumed its journey about 80 minutes later. The flight was LH-438 travelling from Frankfurt to Dallas Texas.

The crew initiated the diversion and turned the Airbus A340-300 around after declaring a medical emergency approximately 500 kilometres northwest of Shannon over the North Atlantic. Before landing the flight crew completed a standard fuel-dumping procedure off the Galway coast to lower the aircraft’s weight to within its maximum design landing threshold. The aircraft carrying 213 passengers and crew landed safely at Shannon Airport at 1.25pm.

Emergency services including the National Ambulance Service and a rapid response advanced paramedic unit met the aircraft on the tarmac. Airport fire crews shadowed the aircraft down the runway as a precaution following fuel jettison. Following a short grounding to allow paramedics to treat and offload the ill passenger the transatlantic flight resumed its route to Dallas departing Shannon at 2.45pm.
