Premier Inn’s owner, Whitbread, has acquired a development site at Usher’s Quay in Dublin 8. With planning permission for a 100-room hotel, this acquisition brings Whitbread’s trading and pipeline rooms in Ireland to over 1,500 rooms.
Premier Inn has been expanding its Dublin portfolio in recent years, opening its first city centre property in 2021 and a second in March this year.
The group has two more hotels in the pipeline set to be unveiled before the end of 2023. One will be located in Newmarket Square this autumn, while another will be in the North Docklands area in December.
Premier Inn plans to open its first hotel outside of Dublin in early 2024, situated at Morrisons Quay in Cork, along the banks of the River Lee.
Whitbread has set a target of reaching 2,500 rooms in Dublin’s city centre. Matt Gent, development manager for Whitbread in Ireland, expressed enthusiasm for the new location, highlighting that it offers an excellent position for customers with limited hotel options in the area. The existing planning permission also allows for the new Premier Inn hotel to be delivered efficiently.
Whitbread also recently announced plans for a new City of London hotel near Fenchurch Street station, following the acquisition of an office building.
