Shannon Airport Group said that as a result of unexpected heavy fog during a period of essential taxiway maintenance work caused the closure of the airport at 11pm last night, Sunday October 8.
Aer Lingus EI110 from New York and EI134 from Boston and EI381 Heathrow to Shannon earlier this morning were diverted to Dublin. Ryanair’s late night arrival from Malta and Porto and morning flights to Stansted, Liverpool and Edinburgh were impacted.
A later statement said: “We are pleased to announce that Shannon Airport has now reopened and resumed normal operations as of 1pm. Airport staff and airline partners will continue to work to minimise any further delays or disruptions, and we appreciate your understanding at this time,” added the spokesperson.
