Fingal County Council planner says Dublin airport does not need to expand terminal

Malachy Bradley, a senior planner with Fingal County Council, has stated to the Appeals Board that daa (Dublin Airport Authority) could address overcrowding issues at the CBP (Customs and Border Protection) point without requiring planning permission for a terminal expansion.

Bradley explains that the current application seeks to increase the floor area of a previously capped building, which was limited in capacity by An Bord Pleanála to mitigate impacts on critical national transport infrastructure.

He argues that daa, as the airport operator, has the ability to implement alternative solutions to alleviate CBP-related queuing, as these queues have been directed to unsuitable areas due to the design and configuration of Terminal 2 (T2), which was developed by daa. He has asked the appeals board to support the council’s decision to refuse planning permission.
