Dublin Zoo has welcomed new arrivals for Christmas, including a Southern white rhinoceros calf and a white-naped mangabey.

The zoo remains open during the Christmas period, except for Christmas Day and St. Stephen’s Day, allowing visitors to enjoy the various attractions, including the Wild Lights event, which runs until January 14th, 2024.

The last twelve months at the zoo have seen:

  • In June 2023, Dublin Zoo launched its first-ever Conservation Education Master Plan as part of its broader ‘Dublin Zoo 200’ strategy. The plan aims to inspire and nurture the next generation of conservationists.
  • The 2023-2031 Sustainability Master Plan was also launched, outlining actions to ensure Dublin Zoo creates positive impacts on the environment, economy, and society as a popular attraction in Ireland.
  • A new Nocturnal House was unveiled in summer 2023, providing a home for Ireland’s first aye-ayes, a lemur species from Madagascar. This unique habitat offers visitors the opportunity to observe the nocturnal species in complete darkness.
  • Dublin Zoo hosted educational weekends throughout August, centered around themes like prehistoric dinos, World Elephant Day, and an SSE Eco Explorer Weekend. In September, visitors had the chance to win a Lifetime Pass to Dublin Zoo, creating excitement and fond memories for many.
  • November witnessed the official launch of Dublin Zoo’s National Centre for Species Survival, located in the renovated Society House. This hub, in partnership with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Species Survival Commission, focuses on species conservation in Ireland and worldwide.
