Feargal Ó Coigligh has been appointed as Secretary General of the Department of Tourism, moving to the position from the Department of Housing.

An tUasal Ó Coigligh is currently Assistant Secretary in the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, with responsibility for housing policy and co-ordinating Housing-for-All. Prior to that he had responsibility for water services, including Uisce Éireann.

An tUasal Ó Coigligh was Assistant Secretary for Culture and Arts from 2015 to 2018 where he oversaw the Decade of Centenaries including the successful Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme. Prior to that he had responsibility for Heritage policy, including the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

In a statement Minister Catherine Martin said: Tá áthas orm a dheimhniú go bhfuil Feargal Ó Coigligh ceaptha in a Ard-Rúnaí.

I look forward to working closely with our new Sec Gen Feargal Ó Coigligh in continuing the sustainable development of tourism, culture, arts, Gaeltacht, sport and media.

Agus ba mhian liom aitheantas a thabhairt don obair shuntasach a rinne an tArd-Rúnaí Katherine Licken, a éireoidh as a státseirbhís níos déanaí an tseachtain seo. Le linn a gairme mór le rá sa státseirbhís, thug Katherine ceannaireacht agus léargas gairmiúil den chéad scoth (she paid tribute to An tUasal O Coigligh’s predecessor Katherine Licken who is leaving the position this week).
