Airlines have started to penalise travel agents with Agency Debit Memos (ADMs) when their clients engage in skiplagging, even though agents cannot control customer behaviour once travel is underway.

A recent survey found that skiplagging is popular among American flyers, especially younger generations, as a way to find cheaper fares and more convenient routes.

The World Travel Agents Associations Alliance (WTAAA) is calling for airlines to stop penalising agents for skiplagging and for an open dialogue between the airline industry and travel agent associations to address the issue.

A cottage industry has sprung up on TikTok and Youtube advising consumers that they can skiplag in hub and spoke networks to get over air fares, a practice more common in the USA than in Europe;
