The FAA is investigating Boeing for potentially not completing required inspections of the 787 Dreamliner, specifically related to bonding and grounding where the wings join the fuselage.
Boeing voluntarily informed the FAA in April of the issue, leading to a re-inspection of all 787 airplanes still in production and a plan to address the in-service fleet.
Boeing stated that the issue was brought to their attention by an employee who reported violations of company policies, prompting the internal investigation and notification to the FAA.
The investigation follows increased scrutiny of Boeing’s production and quality control practices, including a whistleblower’s testimony and a recent incident involving a 737 Max 9 door plug coming off in-flight.
