Viking orders two new 998-guest ocean-going cruise ships for delivery in 2029

Viking has exercised two shipbuilding options with Fincantieri for two new 998-guest ocean-going cruise ships for delivery in 2029.

This decision brings Viking’s total newbuild orderbook to eight ships, with options for two more, as outlined in the company’s first quarter earnings presentation.

The delivery schedule includes the launch of Viking Vela in 2024, Viking Vesta in 2025, two newbuilds in 2026, one newbuild in 2027, one newbuild in 2028, two newbuilds in 2029, and options for two more ships in 2030.

Viking Holdings reported financial results for the first quarter of 2024, with Adjusted Gross Margin increasing by 19.1pc compared to the same period in 2023, resulting in a Net Yield of $508.

Adjusted EBITDA increased by $46.1 million compared to the first quarter of 2023, while Net Leverage declined from 3.8x as of December 31, 2023, to 3.4x as of March 31, 2024.

Viking had sold 91pc and 39pc of its Capacity Passenger Cruise Days for its Core Products for the 2024 and 2025 seasons respectively as of May 19, 2024, and saw a substantial increase in Advance Bookings for both seasons compared to the previous years. Viking also closed a $1.8bn public offering.
