South Dublin council stalls on search-and-rescue facility at Weston airport

South Dublin County Council has requested additional information over plans to establish a helicopter Search and Rescue base at Weston Airport, including the introduction of night-time flights.

The proposed SAR base is intended to be operated by Bristow Ireland Ltd and would accommodate 550 to 580 flights per year.

Local residents, a stud farm operator, and a residents’ association all raised objections to the proposal, citing concerns about noise, impact on animals, climate change, and proximity to residential communities.

The council has requested additional information from the applicants, including justification for the location of the development, potential impacts on nearby areas, and reassurances regarding flight paths and noise levels.
