AMCK Aviation, now part of Carlyle, has been ordered by a US court to pay over $66m to Frontier Airlines due to a dispute over a planned sale and leaseback of six Airbus jets.
Frontier sued AMCK in 2020 for damages totalling $53m in relation to the aircraft deal.
Frontier claims AMCK’s assets were “raided” as part of Carlyle’s takeover of the lessor, with the legality of the sale also challenged by the airline.
AMCK, under a 2020 agreement, committed to purchasing and leasing back six Airbus jets to Frontier, but sought to terminate the contract for the remaining five due to the impact of the Covid pandemic on financial markets.
