Qantas Airways faced backlash after accidentally playing the R-rated movie “Daddio” on a flight from Sydney to Haneda due to technical issues with their in-flight entertainment system, which made individual movie selection unavailable.
The film features adult themes, including language, sexual material, and nudity, and several passengers expressed discomfort, especially families with children on board.
After realizing the movie was inappropriate for all ages, Qantas attempted to change the screens but found it impossible, ultimately switching to a family-friendly movie for the remainder of the flight.
The airline has apologised for the incident and is reviewing the selection process for in-flight movies, while facing criticism online, including a tongue-in-cheek response from rival Air New Zealand: “Plot twist: We let you choose your movies.”
