Boeing has postponed its first deliveries of the B777-9 and B777-8F aircraft, with expectations set for 2026 and 2028 respectively, due to development and testing challenges.
The company will cease production of the B767F after fulfilling orders for FedEx Express and UPS Airlines, targeting completion by 2027, and is planning substantial workforce reductions of about 10pc, affecting all levels of employees.
Boeing’s President and CEO Kelly Ortberg acknowledged the company’s difficult situation and outlined a strategy to focus resources on core competencies rather than spreading efforts too thin.
The commercial aircraft division anticipates pre-tax earnings charges of approximately USD 3.0 billion linked to the delayed B777X and B767F programs, primarily due to ongoing flight testing delays and the impact of labour strikes.
